Apply to CMSP

We will begin recruiting the next cohort of scholars for the Region X California Medicine Scholars Program in September 2024.  

Applicant Requirements

All students interested in the Region X CMSP must meet the following requirements:

  • Be currently enrolled in at least one class at an eligible California community college
  • Have completed or will have completed at least 12 California community college credits by December 31, 2024
  • Have not earned an associate’s or bachelor’s degree as of Fall 2024
The Region X Regional Hub of Healthcare Opportunity and California Medicine Scholars Program are focused on increasing the diversity of the physician workforce to serve San Diego and Imperial Counties, particularly medically underserved communities. Part of this focus is to recruit a diverse group of mission-fit community college students for CMSP. Mission fit categories include:
  • Economically, socially and/or educationally disadvantaged background
  • First generation
  • Ties to San Diego/Imperial Counties (e.g., attended high school in the region, place of birth, parents’ residence and/or applicant’s residence)

These mission fit categories are considered as part of the selection process.

Required Documentation

Please be prepared to provide information about your demographic background, academics and extracurricular activities and secure the following documents:

  • Unofficial transcripts
  • One (1) letter of recommendation
  • Personal statement pertaining to your advancement in medicine and this program

Application Information

The application cycle for the next cohort of scholars for the Region X California Medicine Scholars Program which will run from January 2025 - December 2026 will open in September. To receive the application package when it opens, please complete the interest form.
